What You Need To Know About Flooring Warranties
While the warranty on the flooring you are buying most likely will not be a pivotal point to consider when choosing which flooring you ultimately select, understanding the warranty on the flooring you choose is important. Warranties are going to differ from brand to brand, but here are some key points to be aware of when looking at the warranty information:
Carpet
Carpet usually comes with a 10, 15, 20, or lifetime warranty. You’ll also want to check whether the warranty is transferable, especially if you are thinking about selling your house. The most common warranties include stain, pet urine, soil, texture, abrasive wear, quality assurance, and fade resistance. Different manufacturers are going to have different warranties on their carpet and different exclusions, which is why it is important to check the warranty information on the carpet that you are purchasing.
The main things to keep in mind about carpet warranties are that they are not going to cover improper installation or improper care. Improper installation needs to be handled by the retailer (Carpet Depot) or our subcontractors who installed the flooring. Improper care and maintenance mean that you have to follow the instructions given to you by the manufacturer in order to not void the warranty. This means that you must regularly vacuum and get professional carpet cleaning. Other things that can void the warranty are flood damage and using cleaners not approved by the Carpet and Rug Institute.
Hardwood
Many hardwood floors have a 25+ year warranty on them. The most common types of warranties are the structural warranty and the finish warranty. Just like with carpet, these warranties are only going to be valid if they are correctly installed and maintained. Indentations and scratches from furniture and pets and buildup or wear caused by improper cleaning products are all not covered by the warranty.
Vinyl
Depending on what type of vinyl flooring you’re looking to purchase, you’ll run into several different types of warranties. These warranties can cover wear, fading, staining, ripping or tearing, and the edges curling. One exclusion that is unique to waterproof luxury vinyl is that they are guaranteed to be waterproof, but the warranty does not cover any damage to the subfloor.
Proper installation and proper care are the two essential parts to keep your flooring warranty. We ensure that your flooring is installed correctly by using a professional group of installers that we have years of experience with and who are licensed and insured. Properly caring for your new flooring is simple as long as you follow the manufacturer’s recommendations and use their recommended products. Just in case you do need to make a claim, make sure to keep any paperwork, like carpet cleaning invoices and installation invoices, related to your flooring.
